Ken and Davis came out of nowhere and they don't belong to this series. The other books in the series were relevant to the back story of the shadow world and cleaning up Haven. All the other characters are key to the story progressing. If anything it would have been more appealing if the became part of the Black Wolves. They are a force of the greater good that stands withth Jin/the Dragon and Fei/tiger.
Nice solid read that I thoroughly enjoyed. Good writing, characters and story. Also, it was nice to revisit characters from the previous books. This is a series but it's not necessary to read the previous books to enjoy this one. There are no cliffhangers in any books in the series.

Incredible. Not to be a cheerleader, but this series has met and exceeded any pre-consieved ideas I had in my pea-picking head. What a fantastic read. I can tell that this is going to be one of my re-read favorites.
I found that I couldn’t bring myself to care about either Ken or Davis all that much. I wish that Ken had been much more aggressive or self-assured than he was. I wish that Davis had a less abrupt character change and instead experience a steady, gradual development from ne’er do well to earnestly trying alpha.
I tore through Alpha's Gamble too quick! I love Zoe's work. The anal retentive accountant shifter and the bad boy from high school 10 years ago. A match made in.Haven...er Heaven 0). I always like how the characters go through a discovery drama and Zoe always makes it interesting. It was good to see some of the pervious characters to tie it together.
If you like Zoe's work or love M/M shifters you must pick this up!
You have to be reading the Haven series. The author has managed to create a world here where many different supernatural species come together in this almost Godfather type of world. There are gangs and political corruption and wolves and bears and a lot of other stuff. The main characters are what it comes down to of course and they are believable and real with real problems. This book was about an older brother coming back to take responsibility for his mate and his brother and forming their own pack. He was deep down a good guy and always was, he just had to grow a little.
I really want the next book in the series because the healer is a strange sort of cranky guy that I feel deserves a little HEA.
